Psalm 119:135 Make your face shine on your servant. Teach me your statutes. WEB
Did you know that the small letter of 1 John answers twelve questions that can help you know that your salvation is real?
No one ever maintains a perfect record with these little tests. But if you are truly born again these will help you identify areas where the Spirit will lovingly help you grow.
For this week, instead of Q & A I have listed the twelve signs along with each scripture reference.
1- Do you have a desire to be with other believers in a spirit of fellowship? 1 John 1:3 & 7
2- Do you walk with the darkness (against God) of the world, or do you walk in God’s light? 1 John 1:6 & 7
3- Have you admitted that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness? 1 John 1:8
4- Do you grieve when you break God’s moral law? 1 John 2:3-5
5- Do you love your possessions, money or world approval more than God? 1 John 2:15-17 (Is there any desire that you would not relinquish to honor God?)
6- Is it important to you to do the right thing? (keep your word, tell the truth, avoid cowardice, etc)
7- Do you live a life of purity, realizing Jesus’ blood has made you holy? 1 John 3:3
8- Have you begun to recognize sinful patterns in your life and have sought the Spirit’s help to overcome them? (We won’t be sinless until we are in Heaven, but we should have a disgust for our sin nature and see progress in eliminating its hold on us.)
9- Do you actively show love to other professing Christians? 1 John 3:14 (kindness, patience, etc)
(When you have time read 3:15-24)
10- Are your motives, words and deeds indicative of the faith? 1 John 3:18-19
11- Is your spirit convicted of unconfessed or habitual sin? 1 John 3:21
12- Do you find that you are overcoming besetting sin? 1 John 5:4
