“No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37 (WEB)
“Through Him Who loved us.” Doesn’t that thought just leap right off the page?
Have you ever stood on the beach at night and looked out over the expanse of the roaring ocean where the dazzling full moon seems to rest upon the water?
Even with the roar of the waves, you seem only to focus on the brightness of the moonlight. The engulfing darkness and the activity of others around you are no distraction.
You are completely captivated by the sight and the sound of God’s magnificent creation.
“…the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars… What is man that You are mindful of him?” Psalm 8:3 & 4 (WEB)

Much the same way, the power of a single word or phrase in the Bible can overwhelm you with its meaning. For me, the phrase “… through Him that loved us” is the thought that captivates me deeply.
As a believer, you know the impact of this phrase. We should be brought to our knees by what God conveys to our hearts through this very thought. Jesus loves us. He has the power to overcome everything in heaven and on earth. He will never lose those who, by the Spirit, choose to hold that belief in their hearts.
Bringing this passage into full context, we quickly remember this: “we are more than conquerors.”
The answer to how we are more than conquerors is by having faith through Him Who loved us. We have that faith by His power, not by our own strength.
God tells us how to trust His power. Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still. Exodus 14:14 (WEB). Just be still. Let God work out His plan for your life each day. Trust Him in spite of not having every question answered.
The very next thing Paul writes is the declarative sentence “… nothing will ever separate us from the love of God.” And then he gives a list of what can’t overcome the love of Jesus.
But most believers often struggle to simply trust that God has this life in His hands. Even the hard stuff. We fear so many things even though God never fails to keep His promise to never leave us.
This is similar to dealing with young children. When kids are afraid of going to the doctor, they ask questions like, “Will I get a shot?”; “Will it hurt?”; “Will you stay with me?”; “Can I have a sucker?”; “I don’t want a sucker. I don’t want to go!”

We never get far away from our childhood, do we? I believe the Holy Spirit gave Paul the list in verses 35, &38-39, because God knows how insecure we are when we don’t place everything in His hands. We need the comfort of knowing that God has everything covered, especially the darkest seasons. And He does!
Take this thought with you today. Better yet, share it.
“…Jesus, loved us, and gave Himself for us”
a sweet-smelling fragrance

Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. Walk in love, even as Christ also loved us and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. Ephesians 5:1 & 2 (WEB)
He will be there for you, too. Just trust Him and love Him.
