For I am the Lord your God, so you must consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy…
Leviticus 11:44 (CSB)
There is an old hymn that has been sung in the church for many years and has such meaning for every committed believer. “Take My Life and Let it Be.”1
If every believer would seriously model their lives after these words, we would be bright reflections of Jesus.
Take my life and let it be, consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days. Let them flow in ceaseless praise. (1 Peter 1:15-16)
This line from verse one defines who we are if our lives are lived in Jesus. We are set apart to show God’s glory. We no longer look like the world. We look like Jesus. This brings honor and praise to our Savior, Lord and Friend.
Aaron’s life changed when he became a dad. He is dedicated to teaching his little ones to look like Jesus and to walk in His ways.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love; Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee. In verse two of the hymn, we are reminded that we are to be the hands and feet of Jesus. In other words, we serve our fellow man in practical ways while telling the Gospel to people who are on the outside looking in.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us;
establish for us the work of our hands—
establish the work of our hands!
Psalm 90:17 (CSB)
and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
Ephesians 6:15 (CSB)
Take my voice and let me sing; Always, only, for my King; Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee. Do people hear Jesus when you speak? Do your words and deeds prevent you from sharing the Gospel? Could what you do and say about God be undone by the damaging words you speak? Or maybe it’s the necessary things that remain unsaid. In that way, you either hide your faith or refuse to speak with patience or kindness.
Lord, set up a guard for my mouth;
keep watch at the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3 (CSB)
“…. true…worthy of reverence…honorable…seemly...just…pure…lovely…lovable…kind…winsome…. gracious…”
Philippians 4:8
Take my will and make it Thine; It shall be no longer mine; Take my heart, it is Thine own, It shall be thy royal throne.
To most people this is a most offensive thought. Why? Because we want to determine our own path. The problem with that is; by withholding anything from God’s will, we are living in rebellion against Him. As hard as it may seem to understand, once a person gives their heart and will to the Lord, our greatest freedom in life will be found. It isn’t a guarantee of an easy life. It is the discovery that God’s will brings peace and joy that can’t be found anywhere else. Stop and think. If you have withheld anything, but you believe you are walking with God, how content are you?
but in your hearts regard[a] Christ[b] the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you., 1 Peter 3:15 (CSB)
Take my heart, Jesus
Take my love, my Lord, I pour, At Thy feet its treasure store; Take myself and I will be ever only, all for Thee.
“We Love Him because He first loved us.”
