Proverbs 30:8-9
Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me.
Give me neither poverty nor wealth.
feed me with the food I need.
Otherwise, I might have too much
and deny you, saying, “Who is the Lord?”
or I might have nothing and steal,
profaning the name of my God.
Our key verse for this Q & A is even more simple than it appears. This wise, unknown believer was conveying his desire to never let anything in this world pull him away from his Lord. While he says he doesn’t want riches, he readily admits that he does not want to be impoverished either. But his motive is pure. He knows what every devoted believer knows. Every choice God makes for our lives is the best place for us to be.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God. Matthew 5:8
