Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous Things from Your law.
Psalm 119:18 NKJV
People who have walked with Jesus for a time know that our spiritual growth happens when we get to know Him more and more. Passages like our key verse above is an expression of that.
I have looked at the phrase, “wondrous things from Your law” and I have wondered what does that really mean? How is God’s law wondrous?

Psalm 119:17-24 NKJV
As you learn about the Father, you’ll realize that truly knowing His Law (life’s guide for believers-the Bible) and His Word (Jesus) means really experiencing Him (His Spirit which was breathed into us when we were saved.)
Think of a Bible story or verse that speaks to your journey—one that was like a light turning on for you in a personal way.
For me, one important moment was reading Lamentations 3:21-23 CSB. As a young woman, I had briefly turned away from God. Soon, the pain of my sin hit me hard. I found comfort in reading the Bible again, and this passage filled me with God’s forgiveness and love.
I understood my wrongdoing and how it affected others. I recognized that my sin was against my Savior, which brought me genuine guilt and sadness. In His kindness, I confessed my sin and returned to Him completely. He forgave me, and I knew it.
Despite the pain my sin caused, His love remained sure. He kept His promise and never let go of me. My guilt was gone. I knew my soul was safe with Him.

I could never have found that peace until I returned to God’s wonderful Word.
To me, that is what our key verse for today is all about. God’s gracious Law is not unattainable. It is a guide that keeps us in His footprints. The privilege of obedience to God’s law and His Word is a wondrous thing.
If I follow Him and stay devoted to His law and His Word, not only will I experience the knowledge of what He wants but I will be drawn into Him. I will know the wonderful love of God.
So, what is your example? There are too many to count for all of us. But the Wonderful things of God’s law can only be known if you read His Word.
There is an old hymn that many of my readers will remember.
Trust and Obey. The first verse sums up this section of the Psalm 119 and in particular verse 18. This week why not think about examples from your own life. How have you seen the wondrous things in God’s law.
When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.1
