“Lord, your word is forever.
it is firmly fixed in heaven.”
Psalm 119:89
Seed Basket continues our study of Psalm 119 this Christmas season.

You may wonder how this passage relates to Christmas.
A new beginning came with the birth of the Messiah.
The Gentiles were offered adoption into the family of God.
The new law, brought by the Savior, was a complement to the Father’s commands.
Jesus’ law helps us to love God and others sacrificially. It helps us to follow God’s law, which helps us see our sin. God’s precepts teach us how to resist temptation.

The dark world consider both God’s law and the Christmas story to be invalidated because they are old.
Those who choose to remain apart see God’s law as hateful and intrusive, or weak and irrelevant.
Some who call themselves believers think God’s law should be more progressive as the times change.
But real believers know that God’s timeless truths have never been diminished by a human constraint of time or age.

The Old Testament contains many stories of God’s grace for Gentiles. But the new covenant presented God’s love and grace for everyone in the birth of our Savior.
Take another look at the key verse. “…Your Word is forever…”
Believers find their faith grows stronger as their understanding of God’s precepts are more deeply planted in their hearts.
God’s law guides, gives hope and joy, and never fails.
Psalm 119:89 Lord, your word is forever;
it is firmly fixed in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness is for all generations;
you established the earth, and it stands firm.
91 Your judgments stand firm today,
for all things are your servants.
92 If your instruction had not been my delight,
I would have died in my affliction.
93 I will never forget your precepts,
for you have given me life through them.
94 I am yours; save me,
for I have studied your precepts.
95 The wicked hope to destroy me,
but I contemplate your decrees.
96 I have seen a limit to all perfection,
but your command is without limit.
