Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4 (CSB)
How could we find blessing in Christ and yet mourn?
This second beatitude reminds us that being born again means our sin grieves us.
The Comforter has come.

But that’s a good thing!
If we had not accepted Jesus as our Savior, we would live recklessly, believing we are good enough, ignoring the consequences of our sin.
True believers know our sin nature cost Jesus everything, leading to death and separation without His gift of redemption.
When you sin, are you grieved? Do you care? Are you stuck in habitual sin?
Cold, hard stone.

If your misdeeds don’t tug at your conscience, then you have a problem.
True believers can’t just keep sinning without consequences. God loves His own children too much to leave them there.
The blessing for believers who mourn over sin, is the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
Believers know they are blessed to be grieved over their sin. When we confess our sin and repent, our relationship with God is restored.
Sorrow that leads us away from sin and results in salvation never brings regret.
The sorrow which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
For godly grief produces a repentance
that leads to salvation without regret,
but worldly grief produces death.
2 Corinthians 7:10 (CSB)
Be Comforted
