Here is a link to last week’s installment in the series, “Soon”.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!1
Give praise to God by reading these scriptures out loud. Look at all that He has done, is doing and will do.
Each of the four living creatures had six wings; they were covered with eyes around and inside. Day and night they never stop, saying,
Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God, the Almighty,
who was, who is, and who is to come.
Revelation 4:8 (CSB)
- The six wings on the four creatures signify their constant motion in praising God and serving Him diligently. Their wing movement does not obscure their vision of God, and the wings represent their humility and honor towards Him.
- The eyes all around are meant to represent their alertness and constant vision of the state of the Church, the world, and most importantly in service to God.
- In this passage, of course, the vision John shares is still centered around the throne of God. Remember, this vision is shown to John about future events.
Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the one seated on the throne, the one who lives forever and ever,
Revelation 4:9 (CSB)
Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before thee,
Who was and is and evermore shall be.
- As we continue our look at the book of Revelation, this incredible chapter reminds us about so many things about our God.
- It reminds us that He is to be praised by every creature. It reminds us that He is uncreated Himself and that he has existed forever. He is the One who was and is and is to come.
- The song the cherubim and seraphim sing to God, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” represents the Father, Son, and Spirit in the past, present, and future.
- We are reminded of not only God’s holiness, but all of His work including creation, redemption of the saints, and finally the rapture of the saints.
- The Saints in Christ will have stood before Jesus at the Bema. There we will have given an account for every deed accomplished in sharing the Gospel of Christ, or account for each opportunity squandered for sharing the Gospel. This is not punishment for sin, but God’s holiness will burn away all worthless things.
- But we will receive one or more crowns (The Victor’s Crown, the Crown of Rejoicing, The Crown of Righteousness, the Crown of Life, and the Crown of Glory)
- We will know, deeply, our unworthiness. We will cast all of our crowns at the feet of Jesus in honor because we will understand that the crowns earned are because of Him. We did not earn them; He did.
- Then the four creatures with 6 wings and many eyes on all sides will change the song.
They cast their crowns before the throne
The twenty-four elders fall down before the one seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne and say,
Our Lord and God,
you are worthy to receive
glory and honor and power,
because you have created all things,
and by your will
they exist and were created.
Revelation 10 & 11
Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
Only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
Perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity.
Look at the last phrase in verse 11. “…because you have created all things…”.
Our God is the Creator of all things. He created you and me because He wanted to. He loves us. We are uniquely and lovingly made. I hope that you will know deeply in your heart that God is responsible for every living thing.
Share this beautiful Gospel in your world. Tell people the reason why you know that Easter is an undeserved Gift from the God of the Universe and His precious Son, Jesus.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.
