Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!
And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
Proverbs 4:7(NLT)
True believers know the treasure that God’s Word is. God’s Word will give us life, good judgment, protection and it will guard us. God’s Word is our key to freedom and hope in Christ.
Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go.
Guard them, for they are the key to life.
Proverbs 4:13

Now even committed believers can act unwisely. That’s why staying connected to God through the wisdom of His Word is vital.
Joseph from the Old Testament had an unwise moment that caused several years of danger and unjust mistreatment. All of this happened because he pridefully fanned the flame of jealousy and animosity in his brother’s sinful hearts.
Genesis 37 & 39-45 (NLT)
But look at the wisdom of our Savior in dealing with temptation. Matthew 4.
Do you see how keeping God’s Word in our heart can safeguard us from temptation and disaster?
Just think of every person with an addiction, whether to food, money, alcohol, drugs or any other sin that entices. In one moment, most of those people had a choice to make. One simple unwise moment caused sin to rob them of joy and peace.
Take my words to heart. Follow my commands, and you will live.
Get wisdom; develop good judgment.
Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.
Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you.
Love her, and she will guard you.
Proverbs 4:4-7

Are there people around you who live to provoke reactions? These individuals prefer causing trouble rather than even eating or sleeping. We can’t live in paranoia, suspecting others are out to get us. But with God’s wisdom, you can identify them when they do appear in your life.
In our previous link above about Joseph, there is a passage regarding Potiphar’s wife. Potiphar was an official to the Pharoah at that time. Joseph was his trusted servant.
That pagan woman could have ensnared Joseph. Yet he loved God and kept His Word in his heart. Joseph knew it was wrong to take another man’s wife and refused, despite the temptation.
How many people have succumbed to a moment of pleasure and lost so much more than it was worth?
For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble.
Proverbs 4:16
Think of the children in your life. Don’t you hope they will mature quickly and be wiser than you sometimes were?

I want my five grandchildren to know and love Jesus deeply, applying God’s Word in their lives. I want them to be spared self-inflicted pain and failure, to honor our Savior, and to leave a godly legacy for their own children.
My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)

Teach your own children and grandchildren Proverbs 4:24-26.
Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you.
Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.
Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
Proverbs 4:25-26 (NLT)
Plant His Word in your heart deeply.
