Here is a link to last week’s series, Just a Minute More!
Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not conceal my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 32:5 (CSB)
There is a story at the very end of the blog about the unjust killing of a little lamb. I have linked the story for you. I hope you will read it.
Glorifying God through confession of sin.
When a believer gives their heart to Christ, life does not become easy or free from sin and temptation; in fact, many find temptation even more relentless than before.
As long as we live on this earth we will struggle with our sin nature. But believers have the Spirit of the living God to help.
In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness….
Romans 8:26

Today’s devotion focuses on giving God glory when we quickly confess known sin in our lives.
This isn’t to deflect God’s hand of discipline, nor is it out of fear of losing our salvation. That can’t happen. John 10:28
True believers are always sorry over sin against God. Deeply committed followers want to glorify our Father who gave us His love and grace.
Confessing our sin glorifies God because this reveals that His discipline and judgement are righteous and just.
Another reason confession glorifies Him is that His name is vindicated before this fallen world. The world sees that we have sinned. God’s discipline identifies us as His own loved ones.
There is a major difference between the consequences of our sin, the discipline of sin and the punishment for sin.
Consequences are the natural result of our actions or inactions when we break God’s moral law.
When we break God’s moral law we will face consequences. You will see an example of consequences at the end of this devotion.
Believers will face God’s discipline. Nonbelievers will one day face God’s punishment because they did not accept Jesus’ atonement at the cross.
My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly
or lose heart when you are reproved by him,
for the Lord disciplines the one he loves
and chastises every son he receives.
Hebrews 12:4-6 (CSB)
That discipline is for teaching us how to avoid the same sin over and over again. It helps us see the destruction that sin brings. And hopefully, it brings to mind the high-cost Jesus paid.
You see, true punishment for sin was borne by Jesus, our Substitute—our Savior—so it will never be a burden for believers to carry. Continuing in habitual sin abuses the sacrifice He made for us.
Many believers know the story of David and Bathsheba. But can I encourage you to read 2 Samuel 11 and 12 if you are not familiar with all of it?
Here, you will find there is so much more to the story than an adulterous affair and the death of an innocent baby.
Do you know about David’s plot to keep Uriah at home long enough to explain Bathsheba’s pregnancy?
Maybe you even know about David’s wicked plan to murder Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah.
But there is a story that the prophet Nathan told David in 2 Samuel 12:1-15.
…he took the poor man’s lamb…

It was this story that got under David’s skin. It was this story God used to help David see.
David saw his wicked heart was a slap in the face of the God he professed to love.
Read Psalm 51 (CSB) David likely wrote this Psalm after this sinful time in his life.
Against you—you alone—I have sinned
and done this evil in your sight.
So, you are right when you pass sentence;
you are blameless when you judge.
Psalm 51:4 (CSB)
