Here is a link to last week’s series, Soon!
Often, the verse below is confused with the Rapture. But these verses happen to usher in the new Heaven and the New Earth and the joy of beginning a sinless, tearless eternity with our Savior.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:10-13 (NKJV)
All of the suffering has ended, as John is given a new vision. Let’s enjoy the scene with the old apostle, as the breathtaking view begins to unfold.
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:1-4 (NKJV)
The scriptures below represent Jesus telling John that all of His promises are kept. For those who have hungered and thirsted spiritually, they have been satisfied. God has completed His good work in His faithful servants, just as He promised.
Think of the passages of scripture that should come to mind. Phillipians 1:6, John 4:14, 2 Corinthians 5:17
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
Revelation 21:5-7 (NKJV)
But what a different story for those who rejected our Savior.
“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:8 (NKJV)
The New Jerusalem
Revelation 21:9-21 (NKJV)
The New Jerusalem will be ruled by the Prince of Peace. All sorrow; suffering, tears and pain are gone. The Earth has been refreshed by our Lord. Everything is new and more beautiful than we have ever seen before. The River of Life will run through the middle of the Earth. And the Son, and the Glory of God will be all the light we will need. There will be no need of the sun, moon or stars.
The Glory of the New Jerusalem
But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Revelation 21:22-27
Go and share the Gospel in your world!
How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News!
