Here is a challenge for every believer.
Without looking it up, can you name the first petition that Jesus names in the Lord’s prayer?
It isn’t what you believe it is.
Take a moment and try to recite the beginning of this sacred prayer.
The answer is beneath the picture.
Matthew 6

Our Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Matthew 6:9 (KJV)
That is the first petition.
Not, “Thy Kingdom come…” or anything else. Simply, “Hallowed be Thy name.”
Most assume that is part of the greeting.
We are to ask God, “Lord, let Your name be holy, to me.”
Jesus didn’t simply state the obvious- “Hallowed is Thy name.”
The way Jesus said everything matters. Nothing He said was without purpose.
“Hallowed be Thy name.”
That changes everything, doesn’t it?
How do we hallow God’s name? We hallow God’s name by realizing that He is set apart from this world.
He is pure and holy. He is far above all other things.
When you say His name, say it only with reverence, and don’t be cowardly about standing up for His holiness.
Guard your heart.
Glorify His name with your words, thoughts and deeds.
Pray that His name will always be more holy to His Church.
“Be holy, for I am holy.“
1 Peter 1:16 (KJV)
King James Version (KJV)
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:24 (KJV)
