The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom should I fear?
Do you avoid the Psalms as mere ancient poems irrelevant to your life?
For instance, Psalm 27:1 is great if you are King David, having defeated Goliath or dodged a blow from the spear of raging and demon oppressed King Saul.
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
whom should I dread?
But maybe you are a twenty-first century homemaker with secrets that could unsettle your home, or a husband with habits of occasional anger that for now are simply confined to hurtful words, but what if they become actions?

Maybe you are not dealing with family challenges, but what if your pitfalls involve ethics in the business world that lead to deepening darkness?
Have you settled for a world view that has pushed God so far away that you aren’t quite sure where you stand or what is really authentic?
You have an enemy. He will never leave. Not even for one moment of your life. He is Satan. The Bible tells us that He lives to accuse believers in Heaven even now.

True born-again believers who are trying to live half-hearted lives for God will never make it. It’s too hard. God hates such uncommitted frailty. Take a look at Romans 8.
But if your hope is securely found in God then you know it.
In that case, Psalm 27 is for you. It is not just a poetic wish.
It was a declaration of faith for David of old and is still for every child of God who has surrendered their hearts to Him.
An example is verse 10. Believers understand its meaning. Sure, it would be hurtful if your parents turned away, but even then, your walk with God is everything to you. He would fill that emptiness with all of Himself.

There are dry, hard days because in our hearts we are longing to be with our Savior, and we are not there yet. We are still sinful, and we hate our sin. We are sad when we see this lost and dying world. We hate suffering.
So many things can make us feel spiritually parched.
But our faith is not based on how we feel. Our confidence is based on God’s promises and those are found in His Word. Every word has been proven true.
Be sure to read Psalm 27 and Share the Gospel in your world!
