The story of Joseph still has a few chapters left, but Seed Basket is going to interrupt the family reunion. The brothers still don’t realize that they are in the presence of their very own brother, Joseph. The brother they treated viciously will save their lives.
But before we continue with the story, there is a fascinating part of God’s story that is often remembered by many of God’s faithful pastors. These men teach this story in such a Spirit filled way so I hope you will look up sermons by any of them like those listed in the resources below.

Actually, any one of God’s children can find what they need when reading His Word with the help of the Holy Spirit. Sitting down with a pen and a notebook is helpful; start jotting down random passages or thoughts. When you finish your Bible study, go back and read what you’ve written. You never know what the Spirit will lay on your heart, which is a blessing for your soul.
And that brings us back to the topic from Jospeh’s story for today.
I don’t know who first realized the similarities between Joseph and Jesus, but many such events exist in their life stories. Joseph’s life reflects our Savior in many ways, highlighting God’s purpose in every detail of His story. Each step contributes to the intricate unfolding of this great narrative.

The list below is what has been discovered.
- He is a dearly loved son. Genesis 37 3-4
- He had received divine exalting (though of course Joseph is not deity). Genesis 37:5-7
- His own family made fun of him, nor did they believe him. Genesis 37:1-8
- He was sold for pieces of silver. Genesis 37:28
- He was stripped of his robe. Genesis 37:23
- He was delivered up to the Egyptians (Jesus was delivered to the Romans but essentially for all Gentiles and Jews). Genesis 37:36
- He was falsely accused. Genesis 39:7-23
- He was faithful in the face of deep temptation. Genesis 39:7-23
- He was wrongfully thrown into prison. Genesis 39:7-23
- He stood before high rulers. Genesis 41 His power was acknowledged by those in authority (though Jesus was mocked). Genesis 41
- He saved his rebellious brothers from physical death when they repented. (Jesus saved his brothers, James and Jude, from spiritual death when they repented and believed). Genesis 45
- He was exalted after being humiliated. Jesus has been exalted and is high and lifted up through humiliation. Genesis 41
- He wholly embraced God’s purpose even though it brought him intense physical harm. Genesis 39:7-23
- He was the instrument God used at the hands of the Gentiles to bless his people. Genesis 47
- He welcomed Gentiles to be part of his family. Romans 3:29 Genesis 37
- He gives hungry people bread. Genesis 43
- People must bow their knee before him. Genesis 41
Does your life story reflect Jesus? Maybe you think there is no divine inspiration for your life. But the very fact that you have breath in your lungs and a beating heart tells me that God has a design especially for you. Just read Psalm 139.

Instead of looking for a celebrity or a material blessing to make you feel better, wrap your head around this thought—
Because you are sons and daughters,
God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out,
“Abba! Father!”
Galatians 4:6
Do you see? His Spirit is seeking you. He loves you. You don’t have to seek special. You already are!
Now, Go and share the Gospel in your world!
