Seed Basket is going to begin a brief look at the story of Habakkuk. He was a very frustrated prophet of the Old Testament. He loved God and was faithful. But He could not understand why God was taking so long in dealing with the depravity and sin of Judah.
Habakkuk was discouraged.

You can almost hear a tone of pleading and despair in this intimate cry to God.
And this should resonate so deeply with believers today because our world is in such a moral decline. The majority of people have no use for the God who has given each of us life.
Take a look.
This is the message that the prophet Habakkuk received in a vision.
How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen!
“Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save.
Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery?
Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence.
I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.
The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts.
The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.
Habakkuk 1:1-4 (NLT)

How could this nation of promise keep turning on God who had been so kind and patient?
But now, Habakkuk perceived God’s silence as more than mere patience. Was God listening?
Habakkuk reasoned that if God would simply punish His rebellious children, they would suffer a bit, then they would repent and renew their hearts to Him.
You know whether you live in the U.S. or anywhere else in the world, if you are a believer, the deepening fall away from God and into selfishness, immorality and violence, you probably feel much the same way. You wonder how much longer God can watch it all.
This can be a distraction to believers at a time when we need to be committed to prayer and faithfulness.
How much longer can this persist?

But know this. Our God is good. He is never responsible for evil. He has a plan. Only one plan. He doesn’t need a backup plan. His victory over this wickedness is certain.
And a plan was about to be revealed to Habakkuk.
Now the plan God revealed to the prophet was not what he was expecting at all. As a matter of fact, this plan must have caused our friend to really wonder for just a moment.
Check back tomorrow for part two.
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ!
