What was from the beginning,
what we have heard,
what we have seen with our eyes,
what we have observed and
have touched with our hands,
concerning the word of life—
1 John 1:1 (CSB)

John wrote three small letters to the early Church, as well as the Gospel of John and the book of Revelation. He had walked with Jesus as a disciple and as a beloved friend.
John heard that dear voice.
John touched His hand.
John knew what it was like to be so close to Jesus.
He had a deep desire for believers to have a close personal relationship with Christ, even though they would never know Him in the same sense that he had, himself.
John understood that the rich connection with the Spirit was our best protection from the evil one and the only way to have peace in the assurance of our faith.
Sometimes believers fill their lives with so much of the world that the connection with the Spirit seems distant.
Sometimes, just the gloom of life has the same effect on us.
That’s why planting God’s Word in our hearts is vital.

John’s three small letters address some basic principles of our faith that we all need to be aware of. Seed Basket will explore each of these letters in the coming weeks.
Here is John’s invitation to the Church to discover what he and the disciples found in the Savior.
…and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was revealed to us— what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that your joy may be made complete.
But John was not solely concerned about the believers having joy.
John understood the threat of apostasy within the Church was real.
Many false teachings about Christianity had invaded churches. People were being misled. They needed to know what was trustworthy.
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in him.
1 John 1:5

And that is exactly the message that the Church needs today. We need so desperately to get into our Word. We need fellowship with the Body of Christ, and we need to know the basics of our belief.
Seed Basket will continue to work through 1, 2, 3 John every Friday. Why not share the gospel in your world?
How beautiful are the feet of those who share the Good News!
Isaiah 52:7 (Paraphrased)
