Testudo was what the Roman soldiers called their shields when they joined together in battle. The shields were made to fit together to provide a sort of tortoise shell, interlocking to provide even more protection when facing the fiercest attacks. Testudo is the Latin word for tortoise.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Ephesians 6:10-11 (WEB)
Seed Basket is beginning a new series. This is an opportunity for my readers to join me in the challenging and fulfilling practice of memorizing God’s Word.
We are going to begin with Ephesians 6:10 because it is the inspiration behind this particular devotion.
I have just come through a difficult and very dark spiritual journey. From November to mid-January, I felt like my spiritual breath was knocked out of me.
Now, that I have come through those intense days, I know my Savior in ways that I never did before.
Just when you think you can’t know any more about God’s love, He shows you even more. He has encouraged me, and He has strengthened my faith. He has shielded me from the adversary’s worst. Best of all, I have been able to glorify my Savior.
What would have changed about my experience? The time that I spent memorizing scripture. Distracted by despair, I believed the lie that I could not focus enough to memorize God’s Word. That contributed to my harm. God’s Word is a Shield. His Spirit is our Defender in this earthly battle.
Beginning today, Seed Basket will unveil a new passage to commit to our heart and mind.
And then, be sure to share what you are learning. The Spirit will actively guide you to others who need the precious encouraging Truth in this very dark world.
God bless each of you who are willing to embark on this new journey!
Share the Good News in your world.
