Therefore, he says, “Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:14
Are you aware of the new religions being created by the secular world?
Do they pique your interest, or do they make you concerned for those fooled by the lies perpetrated?
Maybe some believers think they sound so ludicrous that they scoff. Do you realize that the adversary of mankind is hoping that we will not take this threat seriously?
But it’s not just the new religions that should cause alarm in the hearts of believers. There are plenty of old belief systems that entrap willing participants.
I heard a young woman excitedly trying to entice a friend to join her in her newfound faith in an old American cult that has its roots in science fiction.

As I listened, she was talking in circles. The conversation didn’t even make sense. She was explaining how you could choose to bring your own belief system to the group and make it your own. There is no order or strict code. “You do you” is the basic tenet.
And that is the problem. Some believers have been misled into thinking that as long as we adopt the mindset of, “you do you” then we will be left in peace to worship God and follow a Biblical world view.
But recent events, around the world, and now even in the United States, prove that this just isn’t so. This is sinful apathy. We must take a stand for our faith. Do you realize that apathy (Revelation 3:15-16) and cowardice (Revelation 21:8) in regard to our faith in Jesus are sinful attitudes?
How can these weird false religions hurt believing families? They are devised by Satan and his demons. We are no match for their schemes when we don’t put on the armor of God. (Ephesians 6)
These false religions are meant to attract our young children and others who have no Godly anchor. And sadly, this wicked device is working.

So, what are we called to do?
- Be alert. The Bible shows how to protect your family from spiritual darkness. (James 4; Ephesians 6; Deuteronomy 18).
- Know what your children watch on television, the music they hear, and who influences them, including friends, teachers and even people at church. We don’t often consider that there are lost people or simply troubled people at church. You don’t need to be paranoid; just be aware. Pray for God’s protection over your family and stay connected.
- Have a voice for the Gospel. Plant God’s Word in your heart to be prepared to share His Word. Be able to explain the plan of salvation.
- Make wise use of the days that God gives you. Enjoy life, but put God first in prayer, Bible study and fellowship with other believers. Seek God’s heart for your life.
Let’s take a look at two verses. Believe it or not, these ancient warnings are very relevant for us today.
Therefore, watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Let me encourage you to read Ephesians 5 and 6 this week with your family. These days are getting noticeably darker. This is no time for fear. We should be joyful and look forward to the days that our Savior has given us to live.
