Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
Isaiah 35:5
The miracles of Jesus are just so big, aren’t they?
As we become familiar with these old stories, maybe we become deaf and blind to the nuances that God wants us to grasp.
The story of the deaf and mute man is a great example. Mark 7:31-37.
Jesus took this hurting soul away from the crowd and He sighed. (Romans 8:26-28) Jesus was showing His sorrow for the man’s plight.
Jesus looks to the Father in prayer, too. He always honored His Father in this way and that’s an example for you and me.
Then, Jesus simply said, “that is, “Be opened!”. Immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was loosened, and he began to speak clearly.

This man had been deaf and mute. Jesus perfectly healed him. Verse 35 tells us, “Immediately He healed him.” He did not have to learn language. He didn’t have to become acclimated to hearing. He immediately began to hear and speak.
But what was the bigger picture here?
This story is the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy (Isaiah 35:3-6). Jesus identifies Himself as the Messiah who came so that:
“…the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer…the tongue of the mute will sing for joy,“
