Deuteronomy 31:8 The Lord is the one who will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” CSB
Joachim Neander

Ever heard of that name before? I hadn’t till recently. Joachim was a godless man who lived an immoral life and mocked believers.
But in God’s kind patience, He drew Joachim to Him. Joachim was redeemed. He began to write hymns of praise as a result and became the first leading hymnist of the Protestant Reformation. If you have ever sung the old hymn, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty the King of Creation!”, you’ve sung one of his 60 hymns.

In his spiritual immaturity, Joachim became pious and divisive. He was fired from his job. But he did see the error of his ways and apologized. With God’s forgiveness and grace, Joachim started over and spent his remaining years writing hymns, teaching and preaching.
John 14:18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you”

He held fast to the promises of the God who redeemed him. You and I can trust His promises, too!
Joachim Neander passed away at age 30. Maybe he arrived at Jesus’ feet singing one of his Spirit inspired hymns. Or maybe, being overwhelmed by our beautiful Savior, he was stricken with humble silence.
