Here is a link to last week’s series, Three Little Letters.
As we continue to read John’s little letters to the Church, notice that the old apostle refers to himself as the elder in his second message to the people in his care.
From the Elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth—and not only I, but also all who know the truth— because of the truth that remains in us and will be with us forever. 2 John 1:1 & 2
You know, the reason that we began this journey was to help find reassurance when it comes to our faith. John has so clearly revealed what to basic attributes and lifestyles that we should have. Not once did the old disciple of our Savior say anything about being perfect, did he? He never told us that we should feel guilty or live in perpetual grief.

There is an attitude that should be pervasive in every believing heart. And that attitude is what John continues to talk about in this letter. That attitude is displayed in following basic Christ-like behaviors, motives, words, and deeds.
He opens this very letter with the very attitude of Jesus on full display.
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 2 John 1:3
These attributes should flow from your heart. As a child of God grace, mercy and peace were gifted to you at salvation. You should distribute them as gifts in your world, just like John is distributing them to those he loved in this little Spirit-inspired letter.
Then look at verse 4.
I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, in keeping with a command we have received from the Father.
Do you know that one of the proofs of your faith is the joy you feel in your heart when a lost person finds Christ as their Savior? If you are unsaved, why would you care about the state of anyone else’s soul? You don’t care about your own if you are lost.
That is a great validation of your salvation! The joy of welcoming other brothers and sisters into the faith.
Cults Who Knock at Your Front Door-

Have you ever wondered if you should invite people from cult religions into your home when they knock on your door to hand out tracts, here is the answer.
Many deceivers have gone out into the world; they do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves so that you don’t lose what we have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward. Anyone who does not remain in Christ’s teaching but goes beyond it does not have God. The one who remains in that teaching, this one has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 2:7-10
Of course, that does not mean to withhold God’s Word from any lost person. Always be prepared, Spiritually. Be aware that their father, Satan, controls their mind with an arsenal of schemes that even they don’t fully comprehend.
You must know God’s Word deeply and understand the Gospel. Watch for the leadership of the Holy Spirit. And as far as inviting them into your home, just be very prayerful and certain before you do that. for the one who greets him shares in his evil works. 2 John 2:11

I would be inclined to invite them in, but I wouldn’t want to be deceived, to displease the Lord, nor enter into a fruitless debate, so I’m not sure what the solution is. When I put down cultists in the past, I then had to go to work for some for 5 years. It made me wonder what was best and how I should hold my tongue and not judge, even though they were in error.

You would be correct in your choice as long as you are always prepared spiritually. My Bible study for this post helped me learn more what John was teaching in this passage. It correlates to Jesus’ teaching about knowing who will just not receive the Gospel. I am certainly always only an humble student of God’s Word though. Always seek wiser advice from a trustworthy pastor just to verify that my interpretation of scripture is correct.

Thank you for the wise counsel. I have not had occasion to ask someone in, but if I will, perhaps I can get some good counsel from my pastor.
