Here is a link to last week’s series, A Light for My Path.
How are you doing in our endeavor to commit God’s Word to memory?
This week we will look at three verses in Romans 8. These passages show that without Jesus as our substitute, we would be bound by God’s moral law.
Since we can’t be sinless, we would always be separated from God because of that sin. We would have no hope without the grace found in Jesus.

The law is necessary to help us see our sinful state. So, you see, the remedy is not found in the law itself. Rather, it is found in grace. The Spirit calls us. The remedy is found if we respond to His invitation and turn from the lure of our flesh and walk instead after the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit empowers us to turn from our old lifestyle to walk in the ways of our substitute, Christ Jesus.

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:3-5 (KJV)
Here are some pointers for staying committed to memorizing scripture:
- Keep praying for each other. The temptation to give up will grow stronger as we work towards this important goal.
- Choose a reliable translation of the Bible that is easier for you. (Try using Biblehub.com or Biblegateway.com)
- Invite others to join you.
- Consider forming Bible study groups to memorize and understand these passages, and to find ways to share the Gospel where you are.
- Write the verse in a notebook or on notecards
Share the Good News in your world!
