Unshakeable Saturday

Friday—arguably the longest day in the life of everyone who loved Jesus, is over. Saturday morning is silent and sad.

The Pharisees have had a pretty long week, too. But they were busy on this Saturday morning. They were busy doing everything they could to discredit Jesus, even in death. You would think they would be satisfied in their apparent victory.

Catch up with them in Matthew 27:62-66. They were fighting hard against something they called a lie. Saturday was not just another day for them.

Do you believe that Saturday was an insignificant day? If you wholly believe in the Easter story, then Saturday was filled with meaning.

The disciples and all of the other believers were wrestling with what they had seen. Some were wrestling with what they had believed. But I can’t help but wonder if anyone that Jesus healed, any life that He changed, was holding fast to a steady, unshakeable belief that Jesus was indeed the Messiah, the Son of God.

Maybe the woman at the well still believed as strongly as ever. Maybe the once blind Bartimaeus still trusted the Messiah. Could he have seen the Savior on the cross?

Saturday was the beginning of the timeless question. It was the question that Pilate asked the frenzied crowd:  “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” Matthew 27:22

“Let him be crucified!”

Today is no less significant for you and me. Making last minute purchases for already brimming Easter baskets? One more pretty accessory to complete our Easter look? Is there enough food for our great Easter feast?

No. None of those peripheral activities are significant. None of those activities will answer the unavoidable question. What will you do with Jesus? None of us can escape without answering that question.

Has life become so hard that your once rock-solid faith is shaken?

Or is that granite-like faith in your Savior still unshakeable in spite of life’s storms?

Jesus is Lord. He is who He said He is. The Christ of the Unshakeable Kingdom of God. The Father never lost control of His plan. He always kept His promise of love for mankind in spite of the cost. There has never been a fail-safe—never a backup plan.

Jesus never took His eyes off the cross. Not once, in thirty-three years, did the Savior veer from His commitment to obey His Father. Really, from the beginning of time our Savior embraced His sacrifice.

Saturday is significant. Don’t let that thought get lost in the chaos of preparation. Today, is the significant day because it may be the only day that many have left to choose to accept God’s kind offer of salvation through repentance and faith.

For believers, it may be your last chance to live your best life in glory of the Savior that did so much to redeem you.

This moment is the significant moment. You have this moment to answer the question.

Working together, we entreat also that you do not receive the grace of God in vain. For he says, “At an acceptable time I listened to you. In a day of salvation, I helped you.” Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.”
