Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead and descended from David, according to my gospel,
2 Timothy 2:8
The key verse seems simple enough doesn’t it?
- Remember Jesus.
- Jesus rose from the dead.
- Jesus was from the lineage of King David.
- This is recorded in the Gospel story.
If you want to find your voice to tell your world about the Gospel story, then you must first know this very basic truth in your heart.
The Gospel is real. The entire story, inspired by the Spirit, and lived out in the life of Jesus, really happened.
The takeaway for believers today is that we must remember the basics of our faith before we can even begin to share it in our world.
What’s more, we need to be sure that what we think we know is accurate, according to scripture.
In this letter to Timothy, the apostle, Paul, was relating to young Timothy how to safeguard his own ministry. He wanted Timothy to remember the basics.
Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
2 Timothy 2:7

Chapter 2 begins with a reminder that as a man, Timothy will never complete the task set before him without relying on one Source. You have learned what that Source is if you have walked with Jesus for a while.
Take a look at this great wisdom from the old apostle.
You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:1
You see, if anyone could understand the need to lean on Jesus for strength, it was Paul. By the time he wrote this letter to Timothy, Paul was facing death. It was his very last letter.

Can you imagine the grace that he had found to be able to write such words as these:
“…the Gospel…for which I suffer to the point of being bound like a criminal. But the word of God is not bound. This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.”
2 Timothy 2:9 & 10
Most of us live in a world where it is still relatively safe to share the Gospel of Jesus with people who truly need to them?
Doesn’t this passage encourage you to find a place of service? You may not be called to preach or teach, but you can still glorify God and find out how the Spirit wants you to share the Story.
Let these words from this wonderful letter inspire you today:
This saying is trustworthy:
For if we died with Him,
we will also live with Him;
if we endure, we will also reign with Him;
if we deny Him, He will also deny us;
if we are faithless, He remains faithful,
for He cannot deny Himself.
2 Timothy 2:11-13
Take time to read 2 Timothy 2 for yourself this week. You will be blessed.
