Have Christians lost sense of reverence for God?
Without judging others, let us each begin with our own heart.
Are you already making a plan for attending worship service this week?
As you walk through the doors at your church on Sunday, what do you think will be on your mind?
Are you thinking about getting coffee from the kiosk to sip during worship? Are you thinking about the Sunday meal, family struggles, or your appearance?
Is your mind on worship?
If we could see Jesus, I wonder if a cup of coffee or a bottle of water would even be in our hands.
Sundays are challenging, especially for young families or for aging members of the congregation who struggle, just to make it to church.
But thankfully, so many of them are faithful. These devoted believers are usually on time and ready for worship. They are shining examples for all of us.
As worship service begins where are your thoughts?
Can you imagine yourself singing hymns of praise as if you were standing at the Savior’s feet. Can you see yourself humbly singing along with the congregation to Jesus?
If we abide in Christ, worship should be as natural as our next breath. True worship can occur even in our daily day, outside of church attendance.
Though we are to attend church for spiritual growth and fellowship with one another, we cannot forget our primary reason for worship.
Take a moment. Let’s recall a relevant old story from God’s Word. See if you can recapture the awesome wonder that God elicits from your soul-
Forty years after fleeing Egypt, Moses is living in the wilderness, deep within the dessert. His task was tending his father-in-law’s flock of sheep.
One day, while tending the flock, Moses experienced a divine miracle. He witnessed a Theophany- an appearance of God, in a burning bush. But the bush was not consumed by the flames.
And then the divine voice of the Lord, God spoke to Moses from the fiery sight.
God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses!”
“Here I am,” he answered.”
“Do not come closer,” he said. “Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
…Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
Moses fully knew God’s Holy Presence in that moment; he was protected by the Theophany, because seeing God would have cost him his life.
Now, we have Jesus-our Substitute, who makes us able to stand before God.
What grace for the children of God!
Let us return glory and honor to Him, at church and everywhere we go.
