There are fellow believers all over the world who share the Gospel everyday. Many live under the terror of persecution. Others simply live for God in the blessing of freedom.
Devoted believers simply know the cost of their salvation. They know that awful price was paid for them by Jesus.
Murray M’Cheyne was one example. He was a young man who could have chosen to live in the ease of freedom. For a while he did. But a personal tragedy led him to seek the Savior.
For the remainder of his short life he was devoted to evangelism. I recommend the Andrew Bonar book, “The Life of Robert Murray M’Cheyne”.
Murray was a missionary, pastor and hymn writer. He traveled the world, engaging lost people by teaching them about the irresistible Jesus.
The hymn below was written by Murray.
Murray M’Cheyne died just before his thirtieth birthday.
He gave up the temporary joys of the world to follow His Savior. His sacrifice humbly displayed the sovereign Christ-the sinner’s guiltless substitute.
Live for Jesus.
When I stand before the throne,
dressed in beauty not my own,
when I see thee as thou art,
love thee with unsinning heart,
then, Lord, shall I fully know,
not till then, how much I owe.
Chosen not for good in me,
wakened up from wrath to flee,
hidden in the Savior’s side,
by the Spirit sanctified,
teach me, Lord, on earth to show,
by my love, how much I owe.1
