Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

What a wonderful thing to leave behind a legacy of good works for your world to see. We all know about people who are generous, loving and wise. It seems that their deepest desire is to make the world a better place.

Some use great wealth to ease suffering. Others make sacrifices of their lives by putting away material gain in exchange for helping others in practical ways.

But without Jesus, no matter how great our legacy is, our good deeds are only good deeds.

But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;

Isaiah 64:6

It is so important to understand what being a Christian really means.

Being born again is not based on any human effort or sacrifice.

So here are the basic beliefs of someone who has truly been born again.

The Good News

Jesus died, was buried and rose again. It was through His work alone, that we are saved. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Jesus is Lord. He is God.

Jesus is equal to the Father and to the Holy Spirit. John 10:30

Grace

No human being, no matter how well loved by others, how magnanimous, or self-sacrificing is redeemed by their own achievements. We are saved by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8-9

“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.”

Isaiah 1:18
