Jesus in Genesis- Seed of the Woman.
Here is an audio link for today’s post.
This week Seed Basket Devotional will begin a new series. We find Jesus in every book of the Old Testament.
This week, naturally, we will begin with Genesis. Specifically, we will look at the first mention of the Gospel.
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Genesis 3:15
This verse is known by Bible Scholars as the first Gospel. It is the first time in the Scripture that mankind’s need for a Redeemer is mentioned.

There are four characters in this verse. Did you identify them?
- God- the Father (He is speaking)
- Jesus- the offspring of woman
- Eve- the sinner
- Satan- the tempter
In Hebrew, the translation for seed is offspring.
Jesus is the Seed of woman.
Those who are God’s elect are the seed of Abraham, even if the elect are not Jewish by birth. Gentiles who are saved are heirs according to God’s unbreakable Promise. (Galatians 3:29)
The offspring of Satan are his demon followers and those who reject Jesus. They have been cursed by God.
So, the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.
Genesis 3:14
Jesus was made to be a curse by God in order to redeem us.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having been a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”
Galatians 3:13

We should have suffered the curse. But because of Jesus, true believers do not live under the curse.
Once a person is redeemed, he or she will face discipline for sin after our new birth, but we are not condemned.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1
Believers will give an account of how we lived for Christ following our salvation. (Romans 14:10-13) That will happen at the Judgment Seat of Christ, the Bema. (2 Corinthians 5:10)
Once a believer is aware of all that Christ has done to secure our salvation, then to live in known, habitual sin is such an abuse of the grace that we enjoy.
Read the following passage thoughtfully, line by line. What does it mean to you?
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:1-4
