Here is an audio link of today’s post.
Think back to your time in elementary school. Do you recall learning about the distinction between linking verbs and action verbs?
Verbs of action are obvious. By definition, verbs are words of action.
But linking verbs describe a state of being (am, is, are, was, be, being, been…). They describe identity and existence. They are meant to draw attention to the subject.
Well, that is how worship is defined in the life of a born-again believer. That is why we need to understand the true meaning of the word, “worship”.

The word, “Worship”, is actually derived from an old English word, “Woerthship”. That means literally something that cannot be quantified or is priceless and is deserving of ascribing infinite worth to.
So, you see, true worship doesn’t happen because you go to church for worship. Worship is not a place, nor is it an activity.
Rather, you bring worship with you to church, and everywhere that you go. That is because of what is in your heart. The worship in our heart, as committed believers, draws attention and glory to God.
But we don’t do that on our own. When we worship God the way we should, it is because God’s love for us elicits true worship from our spirit, which is our heart, mind and body.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength
Mark 12:30

When we put distance between ourselves and God by disregarding our relationship with Him, then we cannot offer God true worship.
Stop and think. No matter what Christian church you go to, there are lost people all around that appear to be Christians. Some even raise their hands or sing in the choir. Alarmingly, some may even teach Sunday School, but reverence for God is not in their hearts, Therefore, their worship is not true.
That is the same situation for believers who are not devoted to God.
God’s love and all that He does for us should be sufficient to cause worship to flow freely and truthfully from our hearts.
When we respond to God’s love then we will understand this:
But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:23-24

Of course, when we love and worship God the outward manifestation will look like how we have always defined worship. Just understand where true worship begins.
Your heart.
Share the Gospel in your world!
