A Prophet Like Moses
Here is an audio link for today’s post.
There is an extra gem from God’s Word at the end of the devotion.1
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen; to him you shall listen.”
Deuteronomy 18:15
Moses was considered a type of Christ, although we know that he was a sinner like you and me. But his mission from God was to point to Jesus throughout all of his life.
There were 1400 years between the time of Moses and Jesus the True and perfect Prophet. God used Moses as a mediator and prophet. In these roles, Moses would stand between the people and God. Moses would guide His people according to God’s authority, and he would foreshadow the coming Christ.

The key verse is a reference to Jesus. Like Moses all preachers and teachers should only ever point to Christ, not themselves. There is no other Authority and no other Gospel. (Acts 4:12)
This passage teaches us just why we need to listen to Jesus and not neglect His Word.
Listening to Jesus will
- protect us from following false teachers
- guide us by God’s Holy Word
- enable us to share the Gospel
- keep us from altering God’s Word
- enable us to hear from God through the Holy Spirit
Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the boast of our hope.
Hebrews 3:5 & 6
The Hebrew people did not know Jesus yet. (Deuteronomy 18:16 & 17) But they knew God through His prophets. The Hebrews first understood their need for a mediator at the foot of Mt. Horeb, when Moses was given the Ten Commandments. They heard God’s voice. They were overcome with fear of the Lord. The people recognized their sinfulness compared to God’s utter holiness. (Exodus 20:18-19)

The sacrifice of Jesus enables us to stand before God without the benefit of a prophet or priest. He is sufficient.
We can be fearless in our reverence to God because when He looks at believers, He sees us clothed in the rich robes of Jesus’ righteousness. (Zechariah 3:3-5)
It is important for us to know God’s Word deeply. You are responsible for reading God’s Word as a true believer. Afterall, if you love the Lord, you will be sharing the Gospel with people. You must be true to the Scripture. God will expose those who try to obscure the Truth. (Deuteronomy 18:18-22)
The disciple, Peter, lived to see the coming of the better Moses. He openly declared Christ by faith.
Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.” John 6:68
You can share your faith, too. Be committed to Jesus. Read His Word every day.
Share the Good News in your world!
