The memory verse for this week is John 14:21.
God’s Word is so rich with meaning. When we read it intentionally, we will learn so much about God and our faith.
Virtually every verse in the Bible can elicit questions for believers and for people who are searching. The memory verse for this week is no exception.
Read the memory verse first.
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
John 14:21
Next, take a look at the questions below.
- Who is truly born-again?
- Who does God love?
- Who does Jesus love?
- Who will Jesus reveal Himself to in a spiritual sense?
Can you answer each question for yourself?

Let’s deconstruct the passage.
- You can be sure that you know Him, if you keep His commandments.
- You are not being truthful if you profess Christ but live in disobedience.
- God’s love is perfected in those who live according to His Word.
- When we profess Him and abide in Him then we must also walk just as He walked.
The first question inspired by the verse concerns obedience to God.
One proof of being truly born again, is our love for God’s moral law and how we respond to His commands. Obedience to His law is important to believers. Breaking His commands causes true sorrow.
If you click on the link above, you will find a verse that proves your faith by revealing how you treat God’s moral law.

The second question asks, “Who does God love?”
Well, first of all we know that God loves all of mankind, even lost people. (John 3:16 & 17)
But we also know this- (1 John 4:16) Click the link. What does it say about abiding in the love of God?
You see, you cannot understand God’s love unless you abide in Him. Lost people cannot abide. They have made a choice to be separated from God.
When a person has known God’s love in their heart, they truly believe in His love for them. Only then can a person abide in Him. And God Himself abides in them. It is a deeply personal relationship enabled by the Holy Spirit.

The third question, “Who does Jesus love?”, can be found by reading John 17:20-26. Here, Jesus prayed for every believer who had ever lived or would ever live. The linked passages are what Jesus prayed for future believers.
If you can easily see the theme of John 17, then you get it. Jesus wants us to be one with Himself and God.
But there is another verse related to the third question (Matthew 26:39).
Jesus was willing to pay the price for our redemption because of His love for His Father. That was His first priority. Loving and obeying God. That had to be first before He could willingly become the sacrifice for you and me.
Doesn’t that help you to see where a believer’s priorities should be?
Only when we love God can we ever be obedient to the teaching of Christ Jesus. And we love God because He loved us first. (1 John 4:19)

The fourth question, “Who will Jesus reveal Himself to?”, is easily answered.
The passage below is just one example of how to answer the question.
“The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 14:17
When the Holy Spirit lives in the heart of a believer, He helps you to sense His presence. He does that through God’s Word, in prayer, by bringing other believers into your life to help or teach you, and in His own activity in your life.
The more you draw close in a personal relationship the more you will see this. That’s how He reveals Himself to us.
Do a Bible study on the activity of the Holy Spirit. You will be amazed at all that He does for us.

Thank you, Beth; I guess we believers can know this. I pray for those who can’t see, that they will. 🙏
