What are worthless things in the life of a true, professing follower of Jesus?
Well, they are any thought, word, deed or action that falls short of glorifying God.
Some examples of worthless things include apathy, self-pity, wasted time and laziness. In God’s eyes, anything that keeps you from glorifying Him is worthless.
Worthless Things
One way to test yourself is by asking a simple question: “Could I actually give God glory for…?” Then simply fill in the blank. Examples could be things like wasted time, mediocrity, or having a sour attitude.
If those things are true of you, then you can’t say, “Lord, be glorified by this.”
However, if you spend time with God and your family, give an honest day’s work, be courageous, loving, and kind, then you can sincerely say, “Lord, be glorified by this.”
You see, as devoted believers, we are to give our best each day to serving and loving God. We do that in many ways. We can glorify God not only by spending time with Him spiritually, but also in our daily day.
No matter what else you do, keep watching for where God is working. Be prepared to join Him to share the Gospel. That is the most worthwhile thing any believer can do.
But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
Psalm 4:3
Let us profess His holy Name with our lives. Don’t settle for worthless things. The Gift of our salvation is priceless.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness And put your trust in the Lord.
Psalm 4:5
When we walk with Jesus in a close personal relationship, then we will know joy and peace and rest. Even when the stormy and trying days would threaten to overwhelm us, we can know the safety that can only be found in the Savior.
You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the season that their grain and wine increased. I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
