Today’s memory verses are 2 Timothy 3:16 & 17
Avner is a Jewish man who has spent many years studying the Old Testament. He has won awards because of his diligence in studying the Old Testament Scriptures.
But Avner has never met Jesus.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”
John 8:12

There are believers who pray that Avner will one day see Jesus in the passages that he studies. Every time Avner reads the Bible he is reading about Jesus. The Gospel of salvation runs throughout the Bible, including the Old Testament.
The Bible is clear. Without knowing the Son a person cannot know the Father.
I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.” Then they said to Him, “Where is our Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”
John 8:18-19

May I encourage each Seed Basket reader to pray for Avner’s salvation? Pray that the Holy Spirit would reach him with the truth of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Avner will have some very difficult choices to make if he follows Jesus. Jewish people who convert to Christianity are typically ostracized from their family, friends and communities.
I know that the Spirit can reach Avner, just as He reached Eunice and Lois the grandmother and mother of Timothy. They spent Timothy’s early childhood teaching him the ancient Scripture. The Spirit prepared each of their hearts to receive the Son of God.
Memory Verses
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:15-17
